VOTER REGISTRATION

 

In order to vote in the Village of West Milwaukee you must be a registered voter. The State of Wisconsin has set the following minimum requirements to register:

 

You must be 18 years of age.

You must be a U. S. citizen.

You must reside in the Village of West Milwaukee for a minimum of 10 days.

 

Wisconsin’s new voter registration form contains the following language:

 

“If you have, but do not provide, a WI DOT-issued Driver License/identification number, your voter application cannot be processed and you will not be allowed to vote until this information is provided”.

“In other words, the law requires you to use the number from your driver license if you have one, and if you don’t, only then can you use four digits from your Social Security number.”

 

“Same-day registrants also must prove they are a resident of the municipality”.

 

“Don’t forget to bring something that shows you’ve lived where you have lived for at least ten days if you plan to register at your polling place on Election Day”. 

 

You may register to vote at the West Milwaukee Village Hall, 4755 West Beloit Road between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

 

ABSENTEE BALLOTS: A request for an absentee ballot must be made in writing to the Village Clerk.  It must include:

 

Your name, your West Milwaukee address and the address where the ballot should be mailed if different from your residence.

You must be a registered voter in order to request an Absentee Ballot

 

To register, a voter needs to provide a driver license or state ID number, as well as personal information such as name, address and date of birth.  If a voter has no driver license or state ID card, they can use the last four digits of their Social Security number. 

 

Acceptable documents that prove residence in Wisconsin must include a current and complete name and residential address.  They include:

 

  • A Wisconsin driver license
  • A Wisconsin ID card
  • A library card
  • An airplane pilot license
  • A university, college or technical college ID card
  • A university, college or technical college fee card
  • A residential lease effective during election day
  • A real estate tax bill for the current or preceding year
  • A TV, telephone or other utility bill for a period beginning no earlier than 90 days before election day
  • Other official ID card or license issued by a Wisconsin governmental body or by an employer (not including a business card)

 

Voters who wish to register by mail must send a photocopy of their state ID card or driver license to the clerk’s office.  For more information about voter registration and upcoming elections, contact the Generic County Clerk’s Office at 555-5555.
