Development

A Bright and Vibrant Future

Over the last century, the Village of West Milwaukee has transitioned from an industrial “Smoke Stack” municipality to a diversified and thriving community. Many of the industrial plants have since been replaced with successful small businesses and retail establishments. West Milwaukee has evolved to create a unique blend of residential, commercial, retail, and industrial properties.  Located at the center of Milwaukee County, West Milwaukee’s convenient location is ideal for development. The Village is within close proximity to American Family Field, Downtown Milwaukee, the Fiserv Forum, Lake Michigan, Wisconsin State Fairgrounds, the Petit Ice Center and the Milwaukee County Zoo. Our economy is robust, our population diverse, and our quality of life is unrivaled.

West Milwaukee continues to see new and exciting development. Here is just a sample of the history and exciting developments happening in the Village.

Opportunity Zone:  West Milwaukee has been identified as an Opportunity Zone and is an ideal location to maximize the benefits of Opportunity Zone investments. The 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act established opportunity zones to spur private investment in communities throughout the United States. This new opportunity zones (OZ) program will encourage investment in some of the most economically challenged communities through tax incentives. Private investment promotes economic growth and job creation.

Investors can re-invest unrealized capital gains into opportunity funds. These funds invest in projects located within designated OZs. Investors can then temporarily defer and reduce taxes on the invested capital gains and eliminate taxes on future gain from the opportunity funds if held for 10 years. Zones can be searched on the interactive map to determine whether a property is located on the map click here

Palermo’s Expansion into West Milwaukee

Palermo’s, a leading name in the pizza manufacturing industry, has announced a strategic partnership with The Dickman Company to embark on an ambitious two-phase development plan for a new production facility located at 3900 W. Lincoln Ave (old Malteurop site). The initial phase will involve constructing a 202,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility to meet growing market demands and support the company’s expansion efforts.  The new facility will serve as a pizza production, assembly, and distribution hub.  This development is expected to create 50 new skilled labor positions initially, with a projected total of 100 new jobs over the next three (3) years. Construction began in September following the closure of the land acquisition in July, with phase one slated for completion by June 2025.  This growth will support their headquarters on Canal Street in Milwaukee.  A potential second phase of the project could involve an additional 140,000 to 160,000-square-foot building, contingent on future needs.
