2019 National Night Out
National Night Out is America’s night out against crime. This year’s celebration has been scheduled on Friday, August 16, 2019 from 5pm – 9pm and will be held at the West Milwaukee Intermediate School, 5104 W. Greenfield Avenue.
As always, admission is free. Once through the entrance, everyone can enjoy free games, prizes and delicious foods from our local restaurants at a greatly discounted price. This year’s featured events include music from Fire Man Jim productions as heard on the Bob and Brian morning show, a visit from the Flight for Life Rescue Chopper, a fireworks show from the Bartolottas, a rock climbing wall from American Fireworks, Kohl’s kid Design it lab, Milwaukee Fire Survive Alive house, West Milwaukee Native Gussie the Clown, the popular Mascot race and much, much more! So come on down and bring the entire family for a night of fun!
Smoke Detectors: Proven to Save Lives
The City of Milwaukee continues to see tragic fires in which smoke detectors were removed or not operating, and lives have been lost.
It is critically important for Village of West Milwaukee residents to have working smoke detectors in their homes. It is an early detection and life-saving device in the event of a fire. It can give you and your family those extra seconds that count when faced with smoke and flames.
Check your smoke detector today, and make sure to check it on a monthly basis. If you do not have a working smoke detector you can request one to be installed by calling the Milwaukee Fire Department Smoke Detector Hotline (414) 286-8980.

Please do not plow or dump snow into the street. Clear sidewalks completely! We are getting complaints about ice on the walks and areas that are impassable for walkers and wheelchairs. Thanks you for your cooperation.
Sec. 74-9. – Sidewalks free of snow and ice.
The owner, occupant or person in charge of each and every residence or building in the village fronting upon or adjoining any street, and the owner or person in charge of any unoccupied residence, building or lot fronting or adjoining any street, shall remove and clear away, or cause to remove and clear away, all snow and ice from the sidewalk and curb ramps for the handicapped, in front of or adjoining such residence, building or unoccupied lot, as the case may be, within 24 hours after the snow or ice has ceased falling; provided that when ice has so formed on any sidewalk that it cannot be removed, then the persons here-in-before referred to shall cause said ice from remaining and presenting a hazard to the users of the sidewalk by use of sand, abrasive material or any product designed to prevent ice from forming or to remain in its form and not be injurious to the health and safety of the public.
No person shall plow or dump snow on any public street, alley or public property or upon the property of another, without the express permission of the owner of the property.
Any person who shall violate any of the provisions of this section shall be subject to penalties and forfeitures under the provisions of section 1-13 of the Village Code.
Milwaukee County Home Repair Program. The Milwaukee County Housing Division provides a Home Repair program funded by federal CDBG and HOME funds by the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in suburban County communities excluding the Cities of West Allis and Milwaukee. The program offers 0% interest loans to income qualified homeowners to make necessary repairs, correct code violations, and receive accessibility modifications. Staff assists clients by creating a detailed scope of work and works with private contractors to receive bids for the work to be done. Homeowner(s) review bids received and select a contractor from cost reasonable bids. Once a contractor is selected, the Homeowner(s) will sign a Loan Agreement and Promissory Note with the County. The loan is secured by a Lien on the owner’s real estate. The County will facilitate an agreement with the contractor for the work to be completed per the scope. After the project is completed, the County pays contractors from loan funds. The Homeowner(s) pay the County back according to the terms of the loan. Sec. 90-81. – Notice. The weed commissioner shall investigate concerning properties containing grasses that exceed six inches in height. The weed commissioner shall give the person or organization a five day notice by ordinary mail to mow the property.
